Dear Summer 2021,

I hate to see you leave but I had a blast, thank you!!

Despite being a global pandemic for the second year, I truly enjoyed my summer!

I faced a few fears, wore a lot of cute outfits, tried a lot of new restaurants, loved on my friends and family, and visited some neighboring boroughs.

I can’t write about all of my favorite days over the last three months, so I’ll just highlight a few of my favorite moments, in no particular order.

1. Glen Island - A Little Gem

I initially found this park after doing a Google search for parks in the upper Westchester area of NYC, for a sponsored Instagram post. The photoshoot for the sponsored post was a success because picnicking in the park was truly an experience. Glen Island is the perfect location for fishing, working out, kayaking and picnicking. I even brought my mom here, and she did not want to leave after taking in the amazing views. I highly recommend you check out this park if you live in the upper Westchester area.

2. The Wave Ride in Rye Playland

Rye Playland, ahhh nostalgia! This is the closest amusement park to the Bronx, and I would visit often as a child. My mother and I took the twenty minute drive to Rye, NY to have some amusement park fun. We drove bumper cars, ate cotton candy, and listened to people scream from rides that we wouldn’t dare get on. We did however, ride “The Wave”. If you know me, you know that I hate heights, therefore I absolutely refuse to get on anything that lifts off ground. Unfortunately, my mother coerced me to get on, so I basically had no choice. Overall, I had fun but my eyes were closed for the entirety of the ride. Fears faced… thanks mom!

3. Visiting The Brooklyn Aquarium + Coney Island during Hurricane Henri.

I’ve lived in New York for 20+ years but I have never been to the New York Aquarium in Brooklyn. So I took a little trip to knock it off of my summer to-do list. Bronx natives loathe traveling to Brooklyn, so let's just say that I really wanted to see some aquatic animals! My favorite is the shark as evidenced by my tattoo. If you didn't know, then now you do. After the aquarium, we walked along the boardwalk to Coney Island, but Hurricane Henri was brewing so our site-seeing came to an abrupt end. I will definitely be back!

4. Picnicking in the park.

Picnicking in Untermyer Park with my twin, Onika was such an enjoyable and well-needed experience. We played Uno, took polaroid pictures, people watched, and we reminisced about “simpler times” as we were in high school.

5. At Nine Restaurant

I dined at quiteeeee a few restaurants this summer but this restaurant, must be highlighted in this blog post. If you’re a lover of thai cuisine, and you live in or near NYC, run don’t walk to At Nine! They have happy hour all day, everyday, and an extensive, and affordable menu. I opted for something other than Pad See Ew, which is my go-to thai noodle dish, and instead ordered the Spicy Pad Udon Noodles with Shrimp. It was spicy, flavorful and filling. I was very pleased with the food, the service, and the ambiance.

6. The Home Garden

If you’ve been keeping up with me on Instagram, then you’re well aware of the little garden that I have my backyard. I've been helping my mom plant, and grow fruits and veggies for the last two years. It has been so interesting, and fun to see what can grow in our NYC garden. A few of this year's crops include corn, tomatoes ( like way too many actually ), potatoes, broccolini, and zucchini. We also DIY’d our own fire pit that hasn’t been put to use as yet, but I will be utilizing it this fall to make some s’mores.

This Summer 2021 was adventurous, relaxing, hot, and rewarding but it was honestly an overall vibe. I enjoyed every single minute of it.

I vlogged all summer long so if you’d like to see more BTS of my summer , feel free to check out these videos on my YouTube channel.

I hope you all had a safe yet eventful summer, do let me know one highlight from your summer!
